Reviews of the SEEK MOC 4 / Performance Improvement Activity

I recently completed the SEEK QI for maintenance of certification. The training videos and webinars were very informative and well done. I learned a lot about motivational interviewing, a skill that is difficult to master but quite necessary in many cases in our practice. I have always tried to be mindful of the psychosocial stressors that families struggle with but I can say that I am much more so since this MOC activity. Thank you to Dr. Dubowitz and his team.

I just completed the SEEK MOC 4 project and found it to be very beneficial in helping me to institute the SEEK model in our clinic. The information disseminated by Dr. Dubowitz was valuable and practical to our pediatric practice.

This past summer I, and several of my associates, both general pediatricians and developmental pediatricians completed the SEEK, (Safe Environment for Every Child), MOC 4 program presented by Howard Dubowitz MD and associates at the University of Maryland. Excellent case videos and lively webinars demonstrated the techniques of Motivational Interviewing, (MI) and their utility in addressing sensitive subjects related to the wellbeing of children.  The SEEK survey form is used to identify families at risk for challenges which may affect the health or safety of the children, such as domestic violence, parental depression, stress, food insecurity, tobacco or substance use and the use of physical punishment for discipline.  Simple algorithms are available to provide guidance for addressing each of these issues with the family in the collaborative problem-solving manner characteristic of MI.  Templates for information handouts and identifying local resources for families are very useful.  While there are numerous MOC 4 credit programs out there, the actual benefits from this one to our practice have been lasting.  We continue to use the SEEK survey as it provides invaluable information regarding possible toxic home influences quickly and in a relatively non-threatening manner.

Implementing SEEK in my office has been and eye opener.  I thought my screening process was pretty good. Since starting SEEK I have been able to detect unsuspected risks in families, that prior to I had little concerns for due to no obvious red flags.  Thus, allowing for early treatment and hopefully avoidance any long term sequalae.  The videos explaining key points were also well done and helpful in demonstrating key points of motivational interviewing.  Overall, a very helpful program.

The most practical and informative MOC 4 I have done to date. A project you can feel confident will positively impact your patients and their families.

The SEEK Project is so very well done. It has helped me (and our residents) make better connections with patients and parents as well as better address their needs. In a word, it is “TRANSFORMATIVE."

The SEEK model is instrumental in assessing and meeting the psychosocial needs of my patient families. The tool was easy to implement into my office visit workflow and gave me immediate insight into areas of need for each individual family. For me, this has been the most successful model I have used to address social determinants of health. In addition, the SEEK website is thorough and the staff are extremely responsive. Highly recommend, this is worth your time.

The SEEK tool has become integral in our response to Social Determinates of Health and ACEs without being overwhelming. As the clinic Social Worker, it has allowed me to truly utilize my skills in working with families with complex social situations; diving deeper into those cases while other needs can/are met by the handouts provided.

The SEEK project will no longer be offering the MOC Part 4 training as of January 1, 2024. We’ll be providing information and materials for physicians to complete an ABP MOC-4 / ABFM PI Self-Directed training.  Please contact us with any questions you may have.
