The SEEK Project is no longer offering the MOC Part 4 training as of January 1, 2024. We’ll instead provide information and materials for physicians to complete an ABP MOC-4 / ABFM PI self-directed training activity - see below.

SEEK MOC Part 4 / ABFM PI: Self-Directed Activity

The MOC-4/PI Activity involves 8-10 hours over 8-10 weeks:

  1. Reviewing the SEEK core materials
  2. Viewing the 9 SEEK online training videos (total: 2 hours)
  3. Implementing SEEK in your practice
  4. Viewing three 30-minute recorded webinars
  5. Conducting a mini-QI project - needed to obtain ABP MOC-4 or ABFM PI credits

Preliminary Steps: To help you decide whether to introduce SEEK into your practice via an MOC-4/PI Activity, please:

  1. View this 7-minute video
  2. Read the SEEK overview article - coming soon
  3. Click here for Supplemental Guidance on the SEEK MOC-4 / PI Activity - coming soon
  4. Review the ABP or ABFM information regarding a QI project
    • Check the ABP guidance and application for completing a QI project
    • Check here for the ABFM PI Project Information

If you wish to implement SEEK, but not via an MOC/PI Activity, click here. - coming soon

If you do wish to implement SEEK via an MOC/PI Activity, please follow the steps below:

Each participant needs to create a  user profile (click here):

Step 1: Preparing your Practice

  1. It’s optimal if all the PCPs in your practice implement SEEK but it’s not essential
  2. If you have in-house behavioral health, they should be involved in the planning
  3. Innovations can be tricky. It helps to have a champion lead SEEK’s implementation and to have someone from administration/nursing be a co-champion
  4. Optimal to obtain buy-in from everyone in the practice; convey how SEEK will enhance care
  5. Contact Howard Dubowitz (hdubowitz@som.umaryland.edu) if you have questions

Step 2: Initial Steps

  1. View the SEEK MOC/PI 1st webinar - click here for the recording and key materials
  2. Go through the Preparing to use the SEEK PQ-re checklist
  3. Review Parent Handouts
  4. Set a period (e.g., one month) for PCPs to complete the SEEK training
  5. Set start date for implementing SEEK - in ~4 weeks.

Step 3. SEEK online training

  1. Log in to your profile page, select “Training”
  2. View the 9 SEEK training videos
  3. Read the 2 key articles
  4. Review the SEEK Guidelines and Responses to Barriers
  5. Review the SEEK Parent Handouts
  6. Optional
    • Complete the SEEK Test
      • After you submit the test, you’ll see your score
      • A score of 80% is recommended
    • Complete the SEEK Training Evaluation

Step 4. Cycle 1 Data Collection

  1. Randomly select 10-15 charts of children who had a well visit with a participating PCP in the past month. Pick visits that correspond to the ages that you’ll administer SEEK. You could select the 1st or last chart from a PCP’s session of a child whose age matches (e.g., 9-month visit, if that’s one you plan to use the SEEK PQ-Re)
  2. Enter the data on SEEK MOC/PI Medical Record Evaluation Form – (click here for form and instructions) - coming soon
  3. Share the information with all involved, consider tweaks to improve SEEK’s implementation (e.g., reminding front desk staff to include the PQ-Re with other paperwork)

Step 5. Cycle 2

  1. Begin implementing SEEK
  2. Set a period (e.g., 2 weeks) for PCPs to view the SEEK MOC/PI 2nd webinar and read the article on Motivational Interviewing. Click here for the recording and key materials
  3. ~3 weeks later, gather Cycle 2 data from the prior 2 weeks – repeat data collection procedure covered in Cycle 1
  4. Review and share the findings with all involved and make necessary changes to improve implementation

Step 6. Cycle 3

  1. About 3 weeks later, gather Cycle 3 data – repeat data collection procedure
  2. Set a period (e.g., 2 weeks) for PCPs to view the SEEK MOC/PI 3rd webinar. Click here for the recording and key materials
  3. Review and share the findings with all involved and make necessary changes to improve implementation

Step 7. Wrapping Up and the Road Ahead

  1. Submit the Attestation form and your data to the ABP or ABFM
  2. Decide whether to continue implementing SEEK. If so, it’s optimal to repeat at least part of this QI project periodically (e.g., after a year); use the SEEK Feedback Form
  3. Assign someone to probe billing information – see Appendix
  4. It's good to periodically check and update info on local resources on your Parent Handouts
