About the SEEK Training

Overview:

There are 2 ways to complete the SEEK training:

  • Independently – at your convenience view the SEEK training videos and related materials, for free. CME/MOC/PI credits are optional.
  • SEEK MOC/PI Activity – in addition to the above, attend 3 one-hour webinars and complete a mini Quality Improvement project.

The SEEK online training consists of 7 modules on the following topics: introduction to SEEK, parental depression, major parental stress, substance use, intimate partner (or domestic) violence, food insecurity and harsh punishment/discipline. In addition, 2 modules address the medical and mental healthcare team in primary care settings and include: relationship building, Motivational Interviewing, addressing barriers to engagement, and probing suicidality. Aside from the videos, there are two key articles to read and supplemental materials to review: SEEK Guidelines and Responses to Barriers, and SEEK Parent Handouts. Together, these will enrich your learning experience and help you implement the SEEK approach.

Intended Audience:

Pediatricians, family medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and residents in pediatric and family medicine primary care settings.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Screen parents using the SEEK Parent Questionnaire - R (PQ-R)
  • Briefly assess the targeted psychosocial problems (or social determinants of health or adverse childhood experiences)
  • Initially help address the problems and facilitate referrals to community resources
