Getting Started
If you’re interested in enhancing the quality of child healthcare by helping address psychosocial problems facing many families, consider adding SEEK to your practice.
- Review the SEEK core materials to get a good sense of the SEEK approach – SEEK Parent Questionnaire-Re (PQ-Re), Guidelines and Responses to Barriers, Parent Handouts as well as the SEEK FAQs.
- Complete the SEEK online training independently or via the SEEK MOC 4 or PI Self-Directed Activity.
- Be a “champion” for the innovation in your practice or find a professional colleague to play this role, with the help of a lead staff person.
- Encourage other health professionals and staff in your practice to participate in SEEK.
- Identify local resources to customize the SEEK Parent Handouts or use other similar handouts.
- Prepare office staff for using the SEEK PQ-Re and Parent Handouts.
- Sign the License Agreement and submit to the SEEK project office by emailing hdubowitz@som.umaryland.edu.

- Review the SEEK Mini Manual– this includes all the info you need to implement SEEK - in one document.
- Review SEEK Supplemental Materials on Motivational Interviewing and the Quality Improvement (QI) process
- Consider use of SEEK-related softwareto facilitate implementing the approach.
- Too many referrals don’t pan out. SEEK Helpful Hintsoffers useful ways to strengthen your referral process.
